It is probably fair to say that medical science is well advanced. From the discovery of penicillin by Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming in 1928, the first human to human heart transplant in South Africa, heart surgeon Christiaan Barnard in 1967, the 20th century saw some of the most important medical breakthroughs.
